Scrap The Boys - August Challenge

This month at Scrap The Boys the challenge is to create a monochromatic layout, which includes twine and chipboard.  There are great prizes up for grabs, as usual!

Pictured is my little boy in front of the "Penguin Plunge" at Perth Zoo, with his dad lurking in that reflection in the glass!

I used gesso to stop my paper crinkling, and also to create some texture.  Sprayed Bahama Blue glimmer mist and splattered Mermaid glimmer glam.  I also used clear micro beads (real cheap on ebay). My glue didn't quite dry as clear as I hoped (I went overboard with it, hate when those little beads roll off!) but perhaps it adds to the effect!

Thanks for stopping by!

Scrap The Boys - July Challenge

This month at Scrap The Boys you need to create a layout using a black and white headshot of your boy(s) or man, everything else is up to you!

Easy hey?

I had a play with some gesso, glimmer mist and glimmer glam and liked the wintery feel of the layout. I added some light stamping, paper flourishes, random pearls and glittery dots. I was afraid to do much more to it incase I ruined it!

Thanks for looking!

Scrap The Boys - June Challenge

This month the challenge at Scrap The Boys is to create a layout that is about 'SPORT' it must also have a photo smaller than 6x4, include Stamping and at least one of the following colours:
Red - Teal - Orange  or Yellow

Here is my example layout.  Every time I look at it I see the map of Australia! Totally unintentional! Must be my subconscious patriotism!

Scrap The Boys - May

This months challenge over at Scrap The Boys is to create a grungey/arty/messy layout, the rest of the inspiration is up to you.

I had fun getting messy with this one. It looks messier in real life than in the photo as the layers seem to blend with the background paper.  I figured I better add some black paint to grunge it up a little, and was so nervous painting it on and smudging it in incase I hated it, but I love the effect! (and there's nothing a little gesso can't fix!)

April - Scrap the Boys

This months challenge at Scrap the Boys is a sketch challenge, with great prizes up for grabs as usual!

Here is my example using the very cool Kaisercraft 'Base coat' papers.  My 2.5 year old insisted in helping with the misting, hence the broad misting coverage! I softened some of it down with gesso, but overall quite like the effect.

On another note, I have been very honoured to receive a Liebster award from the lovely Lizzy C.

A little bit of info about it:

The Leibster Award was designed to be a blog award in the pay it forward fashion. It is awarded to blogs that have fewer than 200 followers to encourage new visitors to them. Once you have been nominated you award it to five other blogs.

The rules are: post the award on your blog, give the award to 5 bloggers who you appreciate that have fewer than 200 followers then leave a comment on their blogs to let them know you have given them this award.

So here are 5 very talented scrappers which I will pass the award to:

I realise a couple of them have already been given the award (people just kept beating me to it!) but I'd still love you to check out their talent!
I'd like to thank them for sharing their amazing work, and hope you enjoy visiting their blogs as much as I do! :)

Once Upon a Sketch....March Challenge

Journalling: "Picking flowers for mum one lazy Saturday afternoon"

This months challenge at Once Upon a Sketch was to scrap about the weekend.  For me, weekends mean going to work. It also means coming back home to an excited little boy, and almost certainly ending up in a local park.  I love this photo of him picking weed flowers, and when I see it, I can hear that little 2 year old voice saying "I picked some flowers for you, mum."

It's a bit of a mixed-bag of products here, including Kaisercraft 'magnolia' collectables and wooden flourish, a Prima vine, Francheville label frame, gumdrop glimmer mist and gold micro-beads. I made the white flourishes by tracing around chipboard (Blue Fern Studios 'royal border') and fussy cutting it out, which really didn't take as long as I thought it would!

Thanks for visiting my blog!  :)

Scrap The Boys - March

This months challenge at Scrap The Boys has the following criteria:
  • 2 photos 6x4 or smaller
  • Chipboard
  • Washi Tapes
  • Mists/Paints
You can use other items if you wish but these above items must be used.

Here is my very colourful example:

"Note to Self: Shower that gorgeous face with kisses while he still lets you!"

I actually scrapped with scraps! All those little bits 'n' pieces, already punched or fussy-cut, that didn't make the grade for past layouts, I knew they would come in handy for something!

Once Upon A Sketch - February challenge

Journalling : "So dearly loved by your big cousin Sophie, if only you appreciated all her affection!"  I have so many photos of these two little ones where Sophie's the one doing all the hugging!

I was quite stuck for the circle part of the sketch and then luckily came across these new Base Coat papers, by Kaisercraft, and got the idea for the hole in the wall.  I also went a bit crazy with micro-beads. I have a feeling I'll be addicted to these!

Thanks for looking :)

Scrap The Boys - February

This month your challenge is to take a photo of you and your son and create a "BOY" Inspired Love layout...

Here's my example, mostly made of Amy Tangerine papers and Kaisercraft products.  I realised how few photos I have with myself in them.  Note to self: be a camera hog!

Spring Beauty

After visiting the C'est Magnifique Kit Club blog for some inspiration (plenty of inspiration there to be found!), I decided to try out their gorgeous January sketch.

I added interest to the background with gesso, my hexagon template, and my homemade mist spray (watercolour paint, water and perfect pearls powder). For texture, I added torn corrugated card and medical gauze. Loving the gauze at the moment, gorgeous little fibres!

The main paper is Glitz designs, with a few Kaisercraft embellies from their new ranges ('Secret Admirer' and 'Marigold') and a mixed bag of flowers (Kaisercraft, Green Tara, Irene's Handmade Paper Craft).

Thanks for visiting!

Scrap The Boys - January

This months challenge at Scrap The Boys is to feature your boy's favourite summer/holiday activity and use that to inspire your layout.  There are 3 fantastic prizes up for grabs!

After much experimentation and some wasted patterned paper, my example layout finally came together.  I can always rely on my old faithful, white cardstock!
