Scrap The Boys - December

Join in the December challenge at Scrap the Boys:

This month we want to see you create a layout using a Christmas themed photo and a Non Traditional colour scheme.

This is my sample:

Here is my happy little Alex, at age 16 months, not staying very still while I was trying to take a photo of him in front of a gorgeous Christmas tree at his cousin's school.  His cousins performed in their annual Christmas concert.  I spent the entire concert trying to prevent Alex from pulling on Christmas lights and destroying the nativity scene at the back of the concert hall!

I was trying to stay away from the traditional red, green and white, but was desperate to try my new 'gumdrop' glimmer mist. So it's a little greener than I hoped! And the flourishes are actually cream, though they look white in the photo. Never mind!

Little Thinker - Skissedilla #183

Here's my take on the Skissedilla sketch #183, mostly comprised of Kaisercraft "Pickled Pear" papers.

Thanks for looking!

Scrap The Boys - November

Come join in another fabulous challenge at Scrap The Boys! This month the challenge is to use the set colour palette.

Here is my sample:

I tried to make my paint represent juicy mandarins to suit the photo and learnt something new - a cardboard toilet roll dipped in watered down paint makes a cool bubble on the end which you can transfer to your paper!
Most of the papers are from Kaisercraft, with a little Tim Holtz thrown in (lock and key) from an old 2005 paper.

Thanks for looking, now go get scrapping!

Love This Girl - Black With Two October Challenge

No paint on a layout for a change!  But that's only because I just couldn't make it work this time.
The Black With Two October challenge was to use shades of lime green and orange, as per the colour palette below. So I scraped together what I had, bought a little extra and voilĂ !  Well, it wasn't that easy, I spent ages arranging and rearranging, adding and subtracting.  Finding that end point can be so hard!

Thanks for stopping by!

A very special Sophie - Skissedilla #180

I love the sketches and the amazing talent at Skissedilla.  I couldn't wait to try this one, something about those diamonds really appealed to me.  I made my diamond background by sticking down small paper squares and smearing gesso over it, a very cheap way to make a mask.  I always wonder how people get such cool effects with their paint or gesso.  Here I rolled a gessoed-up paint brush stick across the page, glad it turned out well.
I'm not usually a flowery person but I love these Prima cherry blossoms. The papers are from My Minds Eye "on the bright side", and the blue background is Basic Grey.

Thanks for looking!

October 123 Challenge

Small font says "capture all the quirky little memories".

I had fun getting a bit messy with this one for the October 123 Challenge (Word: miss, Colour: school bus yellow, Technique: use paper strips).  I didn't have paper in the right shade of yellow so I mixed up some paint. It looks a bit pale in the thinly applied areas, but the intention was there!

Pictured above are my nieces enjoying a sweet and sour treat, sugared lemons. Makes my face scrunch-up at the thought of it!

October - Scrap The Boys

Come on over to Scrap The Boys for a fun monthly challenge and a chance to win fantastic prizes!

OCTOBER CHALLENGE...

* This month your challenge is to create a layout that is about your childs favourite book or book series, if your child is too young to have a favourite book, what is your favourite book to read to him...

Here is my example:

It's my Alex, age 2, with his Thomas and Friends Wooden Railway Yearbook.  Not sure whether you can call it a book, exactly. It's more like a catalogue/magazine my friend picked up at Myer for him, but at his age it's the pictures that matter and anything with trains gets his thumbs-up!

Picture Perfect

Skissedilla # 177

I've admired the Skissedilla blog for a long time.  I tried to do a layout for sketch #176 but didn't quite finish in time so luckily I could adapt it for this weeks great sketch!

The transparency and most of the papers are by ColorConspiracy.  I really had my mind set on using a white film strip so I ended up making it from scratch on my computer.

Pictured is my son whilst going down a slide.  I love this photo.

Black With Two September Challenge

I've been checking out the Black With Two blog for a while and finally took the plunge!  The challenge was to use mint green and purple.  I had various shades of purple but not much minty-green so I did a lot of painting.  It's been a long time since I did a layout on black cardstock so I was a little nervous about how it would turn out, but I love the result!
Pictured is my gorgeous niece, Monika, whom I have the pleasure of looking after once a week.

Scrap the Boys!

I'm very excited to be on the Scrap The Boys Creative Team!  What a wonderful challenge blog!  I enjoy gathering inspiration from all the gorgeous boy pages created.

Here is my September CT layout:

I just love the Francheville film strip washi and chipboard frames. Other products I've used include My Mind's Eye 'On the Bright Side' paper (this one is "Sawyer"), Kaisercraft 'Check In' tokens and transparency, and Heidi Grace plastic tabs.

A 'just because' layout for a change!

What a sweet little face....looking at the photo you wouldn't know that he'd just had a major tantrum seconds beforehand because I made him put on his hoodie.
Loving the wood-look paper. This one's from the Kaisercraft Attitude range.

August 123 Challenge

"Oh such joy to watch you explore"

The August 123 Challenge was to use the following:

Word: watch/watching
Colour: green
Technique: texture paste

I had to have a go as I had a few photos in mind with some lovely green in them, and a tub of hardly-used texture paste.  I chose this photo of my boy getting distracted away from the task at hand (watering grandma's pot plants) to pour water down a drain instead (not very environmentally conscious at 22 months of age).  It's amazing how a little experimentation can have them so captivated!

Stuck?! August Bonus 2 Sketch

I thought I'd give this Stuck?! sketch challenge a go.  I usually struggle with sketches.  For some reason my brain seems to freeze.  I really enjoyed this sketch though, and am pleased with the result. I'm very addicted to washi tape now, a fairly new acquisition for me, and getting addicted to film strips and anything transparent.  Need to buy more transparent film strip washi!

(By the way, my little old camera skews the edges of the page so things look a bit crooked when in fact they are straight!)

White With 1 August Challenge

Here's my take on the WW1 August challenge.  The challenge was to use white + maps + travel embellishments.  I got some online inspiration for the little paper plane made out of map paper and just couldn't resist doing it.

I felt like such a tourist in my own country having these photos taken upon boarding our flight, but I knew they'd be great for scrapbooking.  We had a short holiday in Broome, WA, with our almost-2-year-old and what a great little traveller he was! The rumble of take-off somehow lulled him into sleep and he slept for about 95% of each flight!

Simple Park Pleasures

The 'Show Us Your Stuff' June group 2 challenge was to use the image below for inspiration, and handmade embellishments as per usual.
I got busy making clouds, the kite and felt mushrooms.

I have taken what feels like millions of park photos, but this is one of my favourites. I love the sunlight beaming through the tree branches onto Alex's hair.

Helping???

The 'Scrap The Boys' June challenge was to feature your boy helping others and to use paint in the layout.

The photo features Alex, at 10 months of age, helping to install our artificial lawn by realigning his daddy's tape measure and competing for the mallet.

June 123 Challenge

I've had a go at the June 123 Challenge, which was to use washi tape, the colour blue, and the word 'change' as layout inspiration.  It led me to finally own some washi tape - what a great scrapbooking product!

The photo is of my little man Alex, at age 20months, at a playground.  I love capturing him in interesting poses!

Daring You to Scrap June Challenge

The Daring You to Scrap June Challenge was to create a layout using a photo of yourself and a word to describe yourself.  It made me realize all the photos of me have someone else in them....hence strategic placement of the butterfly!

Just Perfect

I created this layout for the Daring You to Scrap May challenge, which had to include a list of any sort.  There's so many amazing scrap artists out there - after some blog hopping I was inspired to try a bit of a grungy layout.

Distracted with this layout, I did not notice what my little man was up to.  Who knew he could now open screw-top paint tube lids!!!   Sage green is a lovely colour on paper but not so nice on furniture!

BoBunny May Card Challenge

I love trifold cards! They're so much fun to make!  I made this one using the gorgeous BoBunny 'Alora' paper range.  The BoBunny May challenge was to use three patterned papers, two stickers (in this case it's the flowers on the vine and the red love heart) and one brad/button. The floral brad is from the 'raspberry pie' collection.

LTC May Challenge

Lately I've been enjoying experimenting with shaped cards.  This tag-shaped card was created using BoBunny 'Country Garden' papers and the lovely crocheted flower is from Lime Tree Creations.

Best Buds

This is my Alex (red shirt) and his best buddy having a ball together on a swing at Rotary Park.

Materials used include Ruby Rock-it chipboard alphabet, 'Nostalgia' papers and twine, Bella epoxy brads and 'Paper Boy' paper, and Fundamentals rub-ons and vellum.

Thanks, sis, for showing me how to make the gorgeous pin-wheels, my layout just wasn't complete without them!

Little Red Wagon

I created this layout for the BoBunny May layout challenge, using 'On The Go' papers, cut outs and stickers. The photos are of Alex and his big cousin Jacob cruizin' around on Easter Sunday.  Sometimes I look at this layout and think "whoa, that's busy", but then so are busy little boys! Suits them to a T!

Cuddle...till you drop!

Here is my little one, Alex, and his gorgeous cousin, Sophie, having the sweetest cuddle.  I don't think Alex was expecting such a firm greeting from Sophie, hence the two of them ended up on the lawn!

I created this layout for the Lime Tree Creations April challenge, using a gorgeous crocheted flower and the BoBunny Alora paper range.

BoBunny April Card Challenge

I created this Mother's Day card using the Alora paper range by BoBunny. The theme was to use something from nature, so the local park provided me with this lovely twig for the birdies to perch upon.

Sister, please do not show mum my blog till after Mother's Day!

Mr Cool

I created this layout using the BoBunny 'Blast Off!' collection pack, which includes papers, stickers and cut-outs. A gorgeous range for scrapbooking boy photos!

Kaisercraft Saturday Sketch #2 January

Here's my little cutie and his little bunny friend at the Playgroup Annual Fun Day.  I used the Cockadoodledoo paper range and stickers for this layout, and for making the balloons and kite.
